“I don’t really have a need. We live away from most people and the only fighting is usually against wild animals so basic spells are all I’ve ever really needed. What about you? You seem to be pretty strong. Your aura is pretty big.” He did seem to have any desire to be strong or powerful. He more just wanted to be liked and live a nice yet simple life with his family. Well okay maybe he wanted a little excitement sometimes... probably why he went off today without telling anyone.
The bowls were in the left cupboard. He wasn’t sure why he knew that but he did. He watched as Aiden grabbed them from the spot in his mind. He did the same in reality as well. The only difference was their clothing choice. Odd.
“Well thank you for being here on my very first date~.” Was this his first date? No. Well he didn’t know that so to him this was his first date. After all it was hard to date anyone when you were related to or significantly younger than most people in your commune.
“Well it’s kind of hard to date when the only people your age are related to you.” He said as Aiden placed the bowls down to be filled with soup. It was warm and a small amount of steam rose from the pot. He poured a small bit of soup in one bowl and put it on the counter. He put significantly more soup in the other handing it to Aiden. His grandmothers lemon squares would have been a nice desert for after this. Why does he know that?
“Oh well. Please dig in. I hope you like it.” It had a bit of a spicy kick to it thanks to some red peppers he had sneakily added into the soup. But Aiden didn’t mind spicy from what he recalled. Or was that someone else’s memory? Hmm. Today was very strange. Oh well soup time.

Aiden wasn’t sure what that meant. This aura thing Charani mentioned every once in a while. He couldn’t see it after all, so he took Charani’s opinion for what it was worth. “Well, if I’m good at magic I can make more money with it.” He explained before adding, “The better I am at magic, the less likely I am to get caught.” Sometimes he wasn’t the most upright of citizens. Case and point, their little ‘shopping date’ had been more Aiden taking advantage of the hot, foreign commodity that was Charani to steal from businesses and buys alike. [break][break]
“You should’ve waited to get a better one.” Aiden returned with a snort. He hadn’t extended to Charani the best impression of him but also, he hadn’t wanted to. He took his bowl, grateful its almost overfilled. He’d almost forgotten how hungry he was amidst the emotion cocktail Charani had put him through. Going from angry to shy to furious to paralyzed with shock and embarrassment did a number on you, especially when you were a short teenage boy. Was he a teenager? Kind of old for one. Scratch that, a short, young adult. Emphasis on the young. “So, it’s not a really big commune then?” he asked. Then again maybe that’s why he didn’t know about it. Not that he had asked its name or where exactly in the continent it existed. His strengths weren’t in continental religions and miscellaneous cultures. [break][break]
“You’re in luck, Gran made a fresh batch yesterday. I can get them later.” He said as he carefully carried his soup to the table, not exactly realizing that wasn’t something Charani had sent or even said but just another vague entry in the tether between themselves. Practically salivating he sat himself down, waiting politely for Charani to sit next to him before digging in. He had completely forgotten his intentions of letting Charani eat first just to check if there was poison in his food. Instead, he dug in wholeheartedly. At first, the boy very loudly yelped, scalding part of his tongue but still sucking down hot soup. As the pain traveled through his esophagus, McKenna appeared, legs tucked neatly underneath herself as she lay on a rather worn pillow. This was obviously her spot in the house. “Slow down, you’ve eaten breakfast today.” She warned sternly. “That was barely enough to be considered a breakfast.” He returned sadly as he fanned his mouth. [break][break]
With McKenna keeping them silent company, Aiden was able to cool down his food a bit to keep from hurting himself. Just enough to still be hot without the bodily harm. It was hearty soup, with a dark broth that overflowed with different flavors mixing all together into one tasty combination. Then the real burn hit, and while Aiden’s eyes teared up at the spiciness of it all he seemed to eat even more happily. “I love it." He stated, words quick and serious as he stopped scarfing down Charani’s soup just long enough to say them. He had been starving, but he genuinely liked it. Aiden just tended to eat all his meals with the same intensity and vigor. Better hot than cold. A couple of tears dripped down his cheeks that he tried to wipe away quickly as the spice overtook his mouth. “It’s so good….I’m crying….” He added, rather admit to loving the recipe too much than it being Too Spicy For His Ass. ‘Marriage material.’ As Macintosh would say. Aiden snickered at the thought.

"I just cam here to the party for the drugs Not here to make a friend or fall in love"
“I see. I guess money really is important to the outside people.” He assumed it was because things like food and shelter were not so readily shared like they were at the commune. Everything there was worked on and shared amongst the group. It was a small group as well so little need for excess.
The soup was delicious. He was proud of himself as he picked at it. He wasn’t very hungry honestly and was more then happy to let aiden emerson eat his fill. He did finish his small bit of soup though in a timely manner. Besides desert was always the best part of the meal right? Right.
“Nope, this feels like a good one. You really should give yourself more credit. I’m having fun.” What else would he imagine. Some savior with lots of money showering him with gifts for no reason, no. Disgusting. He wasn’t sure why he didn’t like that. It was thoughtful things and moments.
“It’s not very large. There’s my parents, my 4 sisters, my aunt and cousin and a handful of others. There’s maybe 20 of us? Most are closer to my parents age though.” He said as he picked up his bowl to go wash it in the sink. He grabbed a small sponge from the drawer. He wasn’t sure why he knew where it would be but he did. And washing yay.
“They are quite good. I still need to try her recipe out.“ Anither thing said without thinking. Another slip in the cracked memory that was trying desperately to stay glued together. “I’m glad you like it. Please have as much as you want.” It was kind of cute how he was tearing up. It made him want to bully the boy again. Why was that? Who cares.
“Oh your his familiar right? Would you like some soup too? Teddy always loves when I let him have some soup.” He smiled at the gazelle as she sat there scolding the red heard boy for eating like a tornado. It was good. It meant he liked it. MADE BY SUNBUNS

“Yeah, but its whatever if you know how to make money.” Aiden said with a shrug. He’d been working most of his life by now. He was used to struggling, but now a whole lot less. He tried not to lean too much into his sticky fingers though. The riskier the venture, the bigger the threat in getting caught. Sure, he could through most on his own but, working in pairs was always better. That’s why Charani had been so useful today. [break][break]
He didn’t quite believe Charani, but then again, he had a habit of doubting himself when it came to things like this. And for the moment, he seemed to be speaking honestly. This could’ve been the opportune time to attack him but there he sat happy to let the redhead snarf down his home cooking. He tried to slurp quietly as Charani shared more about his home. It sounded pretty boring is the majority of the population were your parents’ ages. “Now I get you why you ran away, but not really right? You’re going back?” he asked. [break][break]
“Squares are on the counter. Help yourself!” he added as he slurped the last spoonful of soup before setting it down and picking up his bowl to tilt into his mouth. “She threw on extra powdered sugar. As a treat.” He added before beginning to gulp down whatever was left over. McKenna turned form her witch to their guest, eyeing him for a moment before nodding. “I would like a taste please. He’s inhaling it this quickly, it must be delicious.” She said as Aiden let out a gentle ‘ahh’, satisfied with his meal. Maybe…just a cup more? Ah, but he should leave some for Rosario and Macintosh when they came home. Yes, a cup. That was manageable. He had enough room for that and maybe some lemon sq- who was he kidding? He always had room for his grandmother’s baking. “I’ll bring you a bowl, McKenna.” He said as he wiped his mouth and stood up. [break][break]
“You don’t have to wash. I can do it.” He added as he scooched past Charani to fill his bowl once more for the gazelle. Aiden’s one was far kinder than before. Perhaps a lot of his irritation had been the hunger. Maybe, but it was probably more like the food that hadn’t harmed him had made his trust in Charani go up a lot higher. Like giving a character in a visual novel a good gift. The ginger really put too much stock into his food. He purposefully nudged the boy with his hip as he passed by trying to gently shoo him away from the sink. Not too much as to not spill but you know. “Eat the squares, the real drug problem in Sundial.” He gloated. As Rosario was his grandmother, he not only got a front seat to watching her make the addictive fuckers, he also got to always eat them, have them as snacks, even give them out when he had hangouts with friends. Rosario Cunnigham’s baking was one of the finest the Hovel had to offer.

“Yes. Probably tomorrow morning. Blackmoor Swamp isn’t the kind of place anyone should travel at night alone.” He wasn't afraid of the creatures more of the lizard cultists that he knew were somewhere within the boggy waters of the swamp. They had a few tiffs with them before and he didn’t wish to relive that. Besides he didn’t have any pikes to put their decapitated heads on like last time.
He grabbed a square of the lemon variety and nibbled lightly on it as he talked to Aiden. It was as good as he... remembered? Assumed? Something like that. Sometimes he felt like he was getting 40 different headaches from different thoughts with his divination.
“I know but I don’t mind. I’m used to this kind of stuff. Just go sit down.” He did grow up in a large family. Besides that a commune tended to have the children do such jobs because they were the least labor intensive for them until they transitioned into other jobs.
Aiden was attempting to nudge the brunette away from the dishes but he just nudged the redhead back and put the bowl onto the small drying rack. It wouldn’t take much to clean up anyway so why not do it himself?
“They are good I agree.” He said as he picked up the square he was eating after finishing the bowl and spoon. Next he’d do the cutting board and other utensils taking small bites in between. It would take maybe a few minutes at most.
“Oh right, teddy?” The canine familiar would materialize next to his witch at the call of his name. The dog looked up at the brunette. “Do your thing.” The canine nodded as he moved toward Aidens leg, nudging against it to try and shoo him away into the living area to sit. His herding skills obviously. MADE BY SUNBUNS

Teddy wasn’t terribly strong, but he was disarmingly cute. Most familiars he met in his coven were pretty menacing or at least full grown. “You’re too cute to boss me around.” The redhead murmured as he bent down to pat the little pup on the head, fingers nimbly moving to scratch behind one of his ears. Still he moved along, getting the feeling trying to convince Charani to leave the work to him would be futile. [break][break]
McKenna stood up, enticed by their guest’s cooking, and bent her head down to lap up some soup while her witch leaned on the table with his own warm cup. “Blackmoor’s pretty far away.” Aiden noted, glancing at Charani as he more or less took note of his appearance once again. He didn’t look too roughed up. In fact, the general blissful state he and his familiar had been in was the reason McKenna had suggested targeting them. Unfortunately, that had been a bust, but one could say he broke even with a lunch guest and an easy distraction in the marketplace. If his grandparents asked where all his groceries had come from, he was going to say it’d been a gift from his new friend. [break][break]
“If you ran away then you don’t actually have anywhere to stay here? Or is there a branch of your commune hanging out within the city?” He was taking the boy on a- on a date sure. Aiden was slowly wrapping his head around that. He hadn’t done very many dates before after all. The few he had had been, uh, bad. Make out in an alley and get jumped kind of bad. Get a soda thrown in your face kind of bad. He was kind of over it in all honesty. Charani didn’t seem the high maintenance type though. At least- the images Charani had made him see from earlier flash into his head again and he felt flushed once more. No, Charani seemed to be a different kind of high maintenance.[break][break]
“You have somewhere to go, right?” he asked, half hoping he didn’t. He didn’t mind the boy all that much, especially when he didn’t ask intrusive questions or abuse their weird mental link to force steamy made up memories into his head.

“Come boy.” The dog seemed fine with the petting, even moving his head into the action. A much different upbringing allowing this kind of relaxed behavior. If only the normal Aiden could see this now. Teddy allowing him to pet the dog. A miracle praise be. He went along with Aiden as he walked into the other room. He would try to get the boy on the chair or couch to sit in his lap. To be pet of course.
Charani finished the dishes fairly quickly. Idle hands beget the danger of the divines. That’s what his mother always said at least. He watched as the antelope lapped up some of his cooking while her master went on to speak from the other room.
“We have an elluvian we use for travel not super far from here that lets out to the swamp.” He wasn’t exactly sure why he said that but it had to be true right? Yes the memories filled in, the magic creating new false memories to stop any inconsistencies from happening. A mirror hidden in a large tree. “We don’t have branches. It’s just us. I’d planned on just laying outside to watch the stars honestly. Maybe use a tree.” He said as he walked into the room Aiden was in obviously finished with the dishes from earlier... aside from the one McKenna was currently eating from of course. He could leave that for a little later.

Aiden’s quick to slurp some of his broth before pulling out a chair and setting his mug down. Getting comfortable, he reached down to gently pick up the pup and sit him on his lap, happy to use both hands to give the familiar some well deserved attention. “C’mere pup,” he said, teasing Teddy just a little as he ran a hand to scratch around the dog’s neck while carefully patting his head. “So you aren’t that detached from the city after all.” Why would a religious cult have that tenuous connection to civilization unless they knew they couldn’t go without something the city had. Kind of weak conviction wise, but whatever. Guess converts couldn’t go without essential goods Sundial had. [break][break]
He kept quiet, feeling a tinge guilty as Charani made it clear he really had nowhere to go. McKenna eyed him as she ate but didn’t encourage him. More warned him to stay out of it. She could feel the magic of a home cooked meal and a cute face working, as much as her witch would never admit to it. She caught his eyes and seemed to narrow her own blind ones in a cold warning. Aiden doesn’t shrink under her gaze and instead looked away to drink a bit more soup down. “It’ll be cold in your clothes. The cloth felt thin.” He said as he set his cup down. [break][break]
“Why don’t-” the ginger is cut off by a sharp hoof stamp as McKenna looked up at him from her meal to keep him from going beyond small kindness. “Don’t I fix up your clothes later?” he said trailing back a bit. She knew what he would say. It would be the same thing Rosario and Macintosh would say: ‘let him stay’. Why wouldn’t they? After all he was just some church kid from the boonies. Still she remembered Aiden’s convictions better than he did. He was too easily swayed. “I might be able to upgrade them a little. I’ve got spare materials.” He added, quietly backing off suggesting more. “I’m pretty good with a needle. I could take a look after the greenhouse.”

“Sort of. It’s how we get things not easily available in the swamp. Textiles, metals and such. That umbrella is from this city. My older sister got it for me. It’s only a couple people who get to visit the city though and never alone.” The dog was picked up with seeming ease. Despite his small size he was surprisingly heavy similar to your average larger breed like a lab. Of course aiden emerson was more than strong enough to compensate for that.
Charani watched as the red haired boy sat in a chair with the dog in his lap, petting his familiar with a simple ease as if they’d been friends for years. Then again Teddy was used to this kind of attention, greedy even for it amongst the commune as not many familiars there were so... well cute.
“Oh? That’s very sweet of you but you don’t have too.” He said as he walked over the the chair where Aiden was sitting with his dog. He really would be fine. He would just make a fire or maybe cuddle up with his familiar. The dog was surprisingly warm for a creature of his size. Probably a tent of earth to block out any wind. “Anyway. When would you like to leave? We can go whenever you want or we can just talk a bit longer.” He said as he gripped the back of the chair Aiden was sitting on. He leaned forward on the chairs back, elbows on either side of the ends with arms crossed behind Aidens head. If Aiden looked up he would be directly next to the other boy. Feel his breath on his face even it was that close. So close with just a little prodding something... else could happen. Something warm and wet, intimate and strange. It’s hard to breath... but that’s all right.

Aiden nodded along to Charani’s explanations, half paying attention, half trying to find Teddy’s favorite scratch spots. He was heftier than he would’ve imagined but manageable. The pup seemed to respond really well to the affection. McKenna enjoyed the occasional head pat but she was never a scritches kind of gal. More like, stare ominously at you until you got up to eat kind of gal. But that was fine with him. She was a part of him, and a great companion. [break][break]
“I don’t mind.” The redhead said fingers moving to Teddy’s neck as he scratched gently through fur. He took a moment to free his other hand and reach over to his soup mug for another good swig of warmth. He caught a potato and chewed quietly. “I need the practice anyway.” He lied easily before adding, “And its not like you’ll see it if you don’t want to. I prefer not to embroider I’m kind of bad at that.” He didn’t really notice his guest come closer. “Now is fine, I’m almost done. We can-” he said looking for Charani before realizing suddenly just how close the other boy was. [break][break]
He cut himself off as he looked up, locking eyes with the diviner. “Talk. On…on the way…” he trailed off. They were too close, far too close. So incredibly close. His skin prickled, goosebumps running down his arms. This was definitely not talking! A voice in his head went as Aiden’s hand took a life of its own, reaching up to gently pull Charani closer, just enough to close the gap. It’s just barely enough. Just enough for lips to meet and for his eyes to close and for warmth to course through his system. It’s so easy to fall into it, but after a moment, a mental prod makes his fingers slip back down to Teddy in his lap and pull away. Flushed, dazed, and attention drifting to his familiar who was more than exasperated with him. McKenna rolled her eyes, tired of the whole mess. Realization sinks in and he feels like Teddy has suddenly gained 300 pounds and was weighing him down in his seat. [break][break]
“So- The greenhouse-” he started up, eyes burning holes into his shoes as he stared past Teddy, already quickly wrapping his arms around the puppy as to set him down.
"I just cam here to the party for the drugs Not here to make a friend or fall in love"
“You’re a sweetheart...” The dog was enjoying his petting while the conversation stalled. Well at least it was for a good reason. It was innocent, quiet and foreign feeling.
Charani felt a hand on his face as his lips were captured in a chaste kiss. It was warm and innocent. Aiden’s lips felt a bit chapped against his own but it wasn’t unpleasant. It was the opposite in fact, it felt familiar and pleasant. It felt correct and he wasn’t sure why.
It felt like it lasted minutes but it was truthfully only seconds. The canine put on the floor quickly after. He could feel a warmth in his cheeks... or was this aiden emerson feeling this. Or perhaps a combination of both? The subject was quickly changed. Bingo.
“Oh... yeah um. I mean yes let’s go. No use wasting daylight.” He quickly walked around to the other side of the chair and grasped at Aiden’s hand to pull him towards the door. Mostly an excuse to hold his hand, not really planning to let go anytime soon. “Let’s go.” He said with a big smile on his face looking back at the red headed boy. He seemed happier at least and it didn’t seem like he minded the kiss. That was a good sign right? “I wouldn’t mind doing that again by the way. It was nice.”

Aiden dusted off a few stray pup hairs before shooting a glance at McKenna who, upon finishing her own meal had dipped into the ether to begin ignoring her very hormonal witch. She’d given him all the warnings she could and now she was tired of babysitting. But that was fine. The less voices in his head the better. He’d been easily distracted enough today. “R-Right! It’s nicer during the day anything.” Easier to see the plants and all. He flinched a little as Charani led him back to the entrance. He wished he’d let go. Not because he…well, not because he disliked the gesture but more so because it only worsened his sweaty and he didn’t want to survive more than 5 minutes with clammy hands. [break][break]
He began grabbing his jacket and kicking off slippers to leave. Overall it seemed like a pretty positive reaction. He hadn’t been stabbed or slapped yet. Teddy didn’t jump him, though why would he ever? The familiar seemed pretty sweet. The witch tensed up a bit, his reddened face scrunching up unable to really process Charani being so forward once more. Though, it was pretty much par for the course at this point. ‘Stop teasing me so much, and maybe we will.’ He sent back with a huff as he finished getting ready. [break][break]
“It’s not too far of a walk.” He said as checked his pockets for everything before shyly tugging at Charani’s hand. He felt like perhaps there should’ve been a bit more of a protest on the matter. Like calling today’s event’s a date or accepting the stranger into his home. It sort of bugged him how easily Charani could get his way around him. Dangerous even. Though, he didn’t seem like the dangerous sort. Not the usual, knife wielding thug. Still, he also wasn’t sure how much of today had been simply appeasing a very persistent boy, or happily going along with the flow of things. After all, when prodded long enough he couldn’t deny the fact that he sort of, maybe, kind of liked holding his hand. Weirdly enough. Then again was it weird to like someone enough to hold their hand on an outing you admitted to being a date? No. That was super normal. [break][break]
He swallowed trying to pace his honesty with himself and instead chose to focus on locking the door behind him and leading Charani out.
"I just cam here to the party for the drugs Not here to make a friend or fall in love"
“Yes. Off we go... wherever it is!” The dog had since vanished into the other realm like the gazelle had. Not for the same reason though. One was more to give them privacy while the other was fed up with teenagers being teenagers.
Charani liked that aiden emerson didn’t pull his hand away right away. He let the boy linger with his fingers tracing the rougher skin with his own. They of course had to part to get out the door though. Putting his own shoes back on and the over shirt he had worn. Can’t be walking around the city essentially shirtless.
“Oh that’s cool. Then we will get to see all the plants quicker.” He hummed as the other male told him it was very close. Walking distance usually meant very close even. Maybe a good couple minutes at best. The young man went to lock the door and the brunette waited for him with a smile. He would of course attempt to walk as close to Aiden as possible. Holding hands if he let them. There was a woman on the road there that Aiden would recognize. Well a woman and her husband. They were coming back home it would seem along the same path. It’d be a minute before they bumped into each other though. “Youve got yourself a deal mister.” A small giggle followed in his mind.

“Yeah, and there’s a lot to see.” Aiden returned. “Lots of fountains and pathways. Little alcoves and some balconies with lattices.” He explained. The place was close to the Hovel if only for cheaper real estate. With more and more exhibitions being added inside the museum, the Hovel had been the perfect place to set up shop. It was a little big closer to the border between nice and shit too, so that was probably also a factor. He managed a small smile as they set off, his fingers quietly intertwining with Charani’s once more despite his rapid heartbeat begging him to keep his distance. His poor heart couldn’t take much more today. [break][break]
‘Dunno how confident I feel in that, but I’ll take it.’ He returned as he tugged on their link once more before blinking in surprise as an elderly couple came into view. Familiar, of course. He felt his throat go dry, and his eyes wider than a doe’s. The woman seemed to perk up a little, even jostling the man next to her as they approached, on their way home of course. “Afternoon dearies, out an’ about for the day I see?” Rosario Cunnigham would say as she and her husband slowed to a stop to take a moment to greet their grandson and his little boyfriend. Though, by the shade of red on his face and the squaring up of her grandson’s shoulders, she could already tell saying that would just about knock him right on his ass. [break][break]
“Y-Yes. We’ll be home later.” Aiden said, quickly once again refusing to make eye contact as Macintosh and Rosario sneered at their grandson. “There’s soup on the stove, an’ I did groceries…” he murmured as they moved their attention to the star of this show. “And how’re you doin’ lil fella? Runnin’ our boy ragged I see?” Macintosh said clapping a burly hand on the diviner’s shoulder. “Don’t keep him up too late.” Rosario added, a mischievous glint in her eyes that just made Aiden’s ears burn. “Tell us, did you cook up something for our idiot grandson? The boy burns water, there’s no way he could’ve.” Macintosh asked snickering at the indignant glare Aiden mustered up to give. Despite their prodding, it hadn’t been enough for the redhead to let go of Charani’s hand.
"I just cam here to the party for the drugs Not here to make a friend or fall in love"
“That sounds very relaxing. I’m a fan already!” The boy did seem to like his nature. Maybe that just came with the territory of living surrounded by it. Not being ‘city folk’ and all. You know living in the ‘wild world’ with all these ‘new horizons’ to see. Animal crossing. Get it?
Charani gave a little squeeze when the other boy interwove their fingers. He seemed to be quite pleased with the current state of things. He had slowed down his pace once thru locked fingers. Perhaps to keep this moment going on longer. An elderly couple approached them seeming to know Aiden. Family perhaps given how they spoke of him. Yup.
“Oh no. He’s been keeping up quite well.” He said pleasantly to the couple. He moved his thumb stroking the other boys hand as they talked. Maybe a comforting measure? Or an attempt to soothe the fraying nerves he could feel with the wild aura he could see. These two seemed nice enough at least. “Yes. It’s just some simple soup though nothing special. Please help yourself though.” There was a small pause as silence went over them. Hopefully this interaction would last to long. Not that they didn’t seem nice but they were cutting into his Aiden time. It was the hospital all over again. Again. Again?
Anyway back to the date. This little interaction was obviously making the redhead nervous. He should ask about it but they didn’t know each other that well. This was second date questioning at best. Assuming they’d have a second date. Let’s get through the first... first.
