Maybe Charani had sensed his eagerness to get away, if only to breath a quick sigh of relief from his flushing face. Aiden wasn’t quick enough to turn away when he felt lips on his face once more, stunned into silence and left with no choice but to watch one brunette dart away, maneuvering past other bookworms and past furniture and book stacks. The part of his cheek that’d been kissed felt like it was on fire as he realized he was keenly of aware of where it was now. It took him a moment or two to blink back into his own body before quickly snapping his eyes down to the floor and beginning to move quickly towards his goal. The faster the better, he just needed a quick moment to catch his breath. He couldn’t keep up with- with all the flirting, the cutesy behavior. It his him hard and fast since his date seemed almost as skittish as he was. Almost. [break][break]
He felt his burning skin slowly settle back into that constant simmering. He was as calm as teenage boy in his situation could be. Aiden quickly made it up to the second floor towards the Witchbucks kiosk and tilted his head as he mulled over his order. Charani had mentioned he wanted nothing but…maybe he’d get a large just in case the boy wanted a sip or three. As he shoved his hands into his pockets, he began to feel eyes boring into his back. It happened slowly as he distractedly glanced around the second floor to look at colorful upholstery, movement made him turn his head, but he found nothing. Then again, maybe it was just another employee keeping their eyes on him. His jeans were pretty rough after all. Besides, it definitely had not been the first time Aiden had shown up and snuck some goods out with a friend or two. He’d never gotten caught but he sort of knew not to try it again, at least not for a while now. [break][break]
‘What do you think McKenna?’ he asked his familiar as he chewed on his lip while looking back at the menu. ‘I think you should follow your instincts.’ She murmured back into his mind’s eye. They’d just gotten here though. Charani was still shopping too. He readjusted his basket before stepping up to order. “Hey, just a venti hot chocolate please.” He said, as he offered a polite smile and pulled out a couple of gold pieces from his pocket. He nodded as the woman at the register took down his order and money before stepping to the side to wait. He sat down in a little plush nook with a couple of pillows. The fading sunset easily visible in the big window next to him. He watched the shop, keeping casual but trying to find the employee that was maybe not so subtly stalking him to see if he’d disappeared something. He had yet, luckily. As he waited, he gently tugged at his weird mental connection to check in with the diviner. ‘How’re you holdin’ up? Need me to reach something for you?’ he asked as he teased his date who was practically the same height as him.
"I just cam here to the party for the drugs Not here to make a friend or fall in love"
The brunette was busy browsing through all the romance books while Aiden had his crisis. Plus he got a kiss in so he was good for the moment. His hand did feel colder when they parted but it was fine. For now. “I wonder which book I should get.”
The young man traced his fingers alongside a row of books... feeling their spines of fake leather as the walked slowly along. He could still feel aiden emerson in his mind. They were still a fairly close distance even if they were on different floors after all. “Oh I know how to choose.” He said as he used divination magic. Guide of paths would help him pick a book. The floor around him slowly had all its color withdraw as the magic took effect. Four paths lay before him. Two grey and seemingly normal leading to two books. One a little brighter leading upstairs. One pitch black leading around the corner of the book shelf. Well that’s not good.
“Well that’s not good.” He said to himself. His eyes narrowed on the corner of the bookshelf where the dark path vanished from his sight. He tugged as his mental connection with aiden emerson slightly as the other boy joked about a high shelf.
“That’s sweet but I’m fine. Hey I saw some chairs outside. Wanna go sit in the sun?” Away from the blackness. Aiden himself wouldn’t find anything more than an employee looking at him suspiciously. No doubt because of how he was dressed... or possibly from an earlier excursion of his that the man had witnessed. Who knows.
Something moved and breathed within the cafe. It was not a pleasant feeling. Yet it smelled of lemongrass? Or maybe some other herb. An earthy hint to the air around it. There was a woman reading a book with glasses on near Aiden. Beside her was a man with a newspaper and coffee. People.

[attr="class","a1scroll"] Aiden wrinkled his nose as he caught whiff of the strange herbal smell diffusion throughout the store. He preferred lavender, or even something sweet and fruity like orange. This hit differently. Like a really bitter tea with no sugar. He perked up as he heard his order called out and moved immediately to pick it up with soft thanks. He paid no mind to the suspicious employee or the other patrons. After all, he’d done nothing wrong. Today. All was well. He noted the steam floating out of his cup and decided to wait a moment before taking his first sip. ‘Um, sure. Where are you?’ he asked though, it was more of a conversation filler. He knew where Charani was. He could feel that pull get stronger as he stood up. Their connection like a rubber band, taught until the got closer. Maybe that didn’t make any sense since the closer they were the stronger it got so it was maybe more like…magnets? Bad metaphor. [break][break]
‘Let’s check out and we can rest outside. Don’t have much before they close anyway.’ He added as he followed the mental tug while taking a moment to shuffle through the stuff he’d picked up. He couldn’t get all of it. He didn't have that strong an interest in these, but two of them were good enough as gifts. Even in a building this big, he managed to track Charani down. He tugged on the boy’s sleeve before nodding over towards the front. “C’mon. what’re you getting?” Aiden asked as he offered Charani the basket to dump whatever he’d picked up. [break][break]
‘Hurry. I wanna go before they try to search me for browsing.’ The boy added as he counted up their total and did quick and easy mental math. It was like two steps, but it would take the poor redhead the trip to the counter for him to come up with the total. Unless there was a sale, of course, and he’d just missed out on picking up things that were going for cheaper.
"I just cam here to the party for the drugs Not here to make a friend or fall in love"
The brunette had only picked up one book. It was actually the book he had been reading and owned the first time he was in this cafe. Not that he knew that in his current state. He felt Aiden slowly pulling towards him as the got closer. “Just leaving the romance section.”
The woman near Aiden left out a small throat clearing cough as she sat and then flipped a page in her book. aiden emerson found the young witch pretty quickly... probably made easier with the telepathic connection to be quite frank. There seemed to be a sense of tension that was released when Aiden grabbed onto him to tug him towards the register. “Oh just this one book. It felt like a good choice” He said Aiden did his mental math to try and figure out how much money he was out with these books. Not very much probably as his date only got one pretty old book and he no doubt hadn’t gotten anything super expensive himself.
“You look so cute when you’re thinking.” He said to the boy as they got up to the counter to purchase the few books they had. It would be a simple and easy transaction. A few coins and they’d would be on their way. Away from the black and inky light that was behind them.
Behind the black path and shelf was something bad. Well to be honest it was only bad in this current state of mind, The truth. Or at least an uncompromising version of the truth. A few boxes lay on a table as a young woman packs away some trinkets and sets up a table to do readings for the day. It would only take a few moments and the witch would be ready for business.
Of course the two boys would know that. Couldn’t know that as they were going another direction. Towards the conclusion of their little date. And if Charani got his way maybe a little snuggling as well. Stranger things would happen. The screams of a monster as it sliced someone in half. Blood spraying onto his face. A skeletal dragon howling at a city of people as a witch cloaked in red ran forward with golden gleaming power to fight.

[attr="class","a1scroll"] The redhead tensed for a moment, not used to be complimented and teased at the same time. At least, that’s what it felt like. He choked out a small, “O-Oh, thanks.” before he emptied out their basket on the counter and tried to pretend the cashier wasn’t totally side eyeing a pair of teenagers on a date being awkward. Well one was awkward, the other simply sweet. He tried to keep a steady hand as he pulled gold out of his pouch, mouthing the numbers as he set money on the table while the cashier set up their waterproofing. As they wrapped up their purchases and handed them over, Aiden graciously carried all of it out as he frowned in concentration. “You’re cute.” He stated, turning towards the other boy. “And kind of weird.” He added, tucking their purchases under his arm. [break][break]
“But it’s not as off putting as it was before.” Not completely anyway. Part of him still questioned the whole ‘living in a swamp’ thing while being a religious believer. He definitely didn’t want to visit him, but he also wanted to see him again. Aiden pulled out a chair and set the books down on one of the empty tables that decorated the outside of the bookshop. He set the books down and waited for Charani before sliding them over. “I didn’t know you were into romance, or else I would’ve picked out something smuttier.” He explained, holding back a laugh. Now it kind of made sense where those wild images form before had come from. [break][break]
“I got you instead a collection of fables from around the continent, dog eared my favorite one for you.” He said showing off the book he had previously held to tease the witch. “This other one is more sundial. Just a collection of short stories written by locals, and urban myths someone codified.” He added tapping on another, thinner book. “There are a couple of romance-ish stories in this one.” He paused to take a sip of hot chocolate that had since going from scalding hot to just bellow simmering. Still felt warm as it traveled down to his stomach. “Anyway, hope it keeps the boredom away.” Because why else did a teenager run away from home?
"I just cam here to the party for the drugs Not here to make a friend or fall in love"
The red haired witch would feel a strong sense of relief mixed with unbridled joy after he called the telepathic boy cute. Instead of the slipping of gentle emotions like before it was a shallow wave across the sand.
The purchase completed they made their way to a table to sit down as aiden emerson sprawled out his purchases and explained them to the cultist. A wide selection of fables and history of the city. Though he was always partial to anything with romance in it. “Oh my that sounds fun. But yes I guess I just kind of like the whole idea.” He said as he thought about what it is he liked about romance novels. Maybe it was the idea of true love? The red string of fate or something like that. He liked that idea even if it probably wasn’t real or that simple at the very least in real life.
“Oh? But if you got something smutty then that might give me ideas. Ideas that aren’t very first date friendly.” He winked at the boy and made sure to be super obvious about wining all dramatic like he was in a play or some high school crappy rendition of one. Aggressive.
In fact he was being pretty aggressive under the table. His shoes had since come off and he was purposefully trying to push up the boys pant legs to slide his legs and/or soles of his feet on the boys bare calves. Purposefully after Aiden made that smutty comment partially to be mean and partially because he wanted more contact for the day.

He felt goosebumps rush over his arms and the back of his neck. While Charani didn’t say anything, he could sort of feel he’d said something right. It was going well, really well. Extraordinarily well, especially for Aiden who had not thought that today he would be on any date. He would’ve been home hours ago scrounging around for snacks and sitting in the garden for a nap. Rough insecurities aside, this was far better overall. “I think everyone likes a bit of romance every once in a while. Or else it wouldn’t be so prominent in stories.” Aiden replied, offering a shrug. He hadn’t read many romances that felt compelling to him, but he’d read a bit. Maybe he was just really boring though. [break][break]
Aiden stared at the diviner, blinking quickly for a moment as he tried not to fall too hard for this obvious trap. “As if you haven’t had terrible thoughts about me today without any prompting.” Charani had been teasing him in any way possible today. He supposed this was how Charani flirted. At least could tell it was flirting. Aiden wasn’t good at subtleties and as embarrassing as kisses on the cheek or hand holding was to him, at least the sentiment behind it was explicit to him. He could understand it. A strange boy had clung to him and flirted with him, and now he was all wound up and buying the boy gifts. [break][break]
He fidgeted at he felt skin on skin again, eyes widening at the other boy. “You’re kind of bold for someone who’s never been on a date before.” Aiden looked awkward. Clenched fists on his lap, green eyes darting from his date to the street and back, the sheen of sweat creeping down his cheeks. Super awkward, and yet through it all he didn’t actually bother shoving Charani away. “How was it?” he asked before adding quickly afterwards, “Our date.” It’d be dark soon enough and he’d have to go back home. There wasn’t a whole lot of privacy back there. Unless he closed the door to his room but…that seemed a little iffy to him. He’d never really brought a date back to his room like that before. Was it even clean? Oh no.
"I just cam here to the party for the drugs Not here to make a friend or fall in love"
Charani simply nodded in agreement with the other witch. Yes romance was obviously popular. More so with young women but still it was the kind of joy every wished for on some level. Or at least he was sure most people did. It was a nice feeling. A warm feeling. Like a hug from the great god. “Who says those were only my thoughts? I seem to recall you initiating our first kiss not me.” He sniped rather snuggly at that, sticking his tongue out to tease the poor boy. While Charani certainly set it up like that by purposefully being so close to him he couldn’t exactly control the other males actions. He was just being very affectionate and Aiden took the initiative.
“Affection is very open where I’m from. Besides you’d be bold too if you were on a date with someone as attractive as you.” He said as he thought about it. It was true the people who grew up around were much more... affectionate than normal people would be. That was the kind of thing that was normal for him so he really didn’t think anything of it. Maybe that’s why he found Aidens actions and reactions so interesting. Why he was so aggressive.
“Well since this is my first date I don’t really have anything to compare it too. But I’ve had lots of fun so I’d say it went well.” It was starting to get darker as they sat there and talked. He was brimming with energy though and didn’t seem to notice. He just seemed happy to be there. Of course he was still messing with Aiden this whole time.

Truly, no action had been bolder today than Aiden making the first move, so to speak. It came second only to, you now, trying to strangle and mug the poor kid in the middle of the plains. Whatever his intentions had been, it’d made the impression. “T-That was nothing but chaste.” No thoughts, head empty. Head then proceeded to be filled with thoughts of kissing for the rest of the afternoon. He had gotten so wrapped up with it he wasn’t sure how guarded his thoughts of that had been, but he imagined in his daydreaming the memory and the emotion of it all had made its way back to Charani. [break][break]
“Even with stran-” He felt his brain beginning to melt a little, still not used to the compliments and struggling to lob them back. Being attractive to someone else wasn’t really something he experienced often after all. “Even with strangers, y-you’re always this affectionate?” he asked, tapping a finger on the table to signal the game of footsie that was still being played by one person at this table. He wasn’t about to take his sneakers off right now. [break][break]
“Yeah this was one of my more relaxing ones.” One of the more invested ones he’s been on anyway. Whether it began superficially with using the brunette as bait and attempting to ditch him in the middle of the city to simply…hanging out. It wasn’t bad at all. He didn’t think they had much in common, but he sort of felt like he was calmer overall. Happier? He didn’t mind staying here, and he didn’t mind if it went further or became something more. “Let’s hope I can keep the streak going. I-…I promised right?” More like Charani had made him promise in a really cheesy way, but who was he to say no to him when he was so excited for it? He covered his face with his hands suddenly overtaken by just how weird he felt he sounded. Gross. Gross!! He wasn’t cut out for this romantic stuff. His tolerance of it was so low. ‘Ugh, this is incredibly corny…I’m better at just doing things that…talking about them.’ Actually speaking about his feelings? Too cliché.
"I just cam here to the party for the drugs Not here to make a friend or fall in love"
Charani smirked at the idea of chastity in that kiss. “I think your idea of chaste and my idea of chaste are very different.” He was definitely right about that. In his mind aside from some not so chaste thoughts purposefully throw around even what he was doing right now he deemed chaste. “Well not this specifically. But the general touching and hand holding is pretty normal. Also your legs aren’t as hairy as I thought they’d be. It’s kind of nice.” Charani certainly grew up in a very different world than Aiden did. It was obvious how far removed he was from this kind of affection and how unromantic or at least uncomfortable with romantic words he was. He did seem to do better with displays of affection though.
“Yes. Yes. It’ll be lots of fun I’m sure. Though even if we stayed locked up in your room it’ll be a good time.” He could spend much more alone time with the boy that way. Lots of gentle touching and probably more kissing. Definitely more kissing. Maybe some biting. Normal things for boys of their age.
“Don’t worry about it. You’re doing great.” It was a nice sentiment and well meant. He didn’t have to try super hard and Charani would be happy. It was for sure his own feelings and memories shining through the spell. Otherwise he’d probably have given the boy a quick glance over and left it at that. But that wasn’t the case now. Especially not with his foot traveling up his inner thigh like it was. God bless America.

Ah, there it was. The reason why he’d wanted to run away earlier despite everything going so well. He didn’t know a lot about Charani except that he was bold, and they really didn’t have the same ideas when it came to light affection. He had barely allowed himself to think about other possibilities while Charani was already 6 steps ahead of him, crushing him with every move. Not that it was terrible or anything. He could admit to enjoying it. It was just jarring. “I’d say I don’t want to know how different our versions of chaste are, but I can see it anytime you want me to.” He said, his hands dropping back down to the little table. The brunette really didn’t hold back at abusing the tether he’d discovered between them. Though being familiar with the type of magic it was, he supposed it was easy for him. [break][break]
“So, it doesn’t have a romantic feeling then. That makes this different.” Aiden replied. He was pretty sure he wouldn’t have had a second thought about holding his grandparent’s hands or even a friend’s, though he didn’t see the point for the latter. Charani was different though, and it added a bit more weight, more intimate he supposed. Maybe that was just him being overly sensitive. “I- My what-?” it wasn’t meant maliciously but he felt a part of his ego sort of deflate while another part of it ballooned slightly with pride. He had hoped to one day look a bit more gruff like Macintosh, but on the other hand…whatever worked here was fine too. [break][break]
“We might. It’s been a pretty long day for me, and probably you too.” He quirked a tired smile happy that his attempts were appreciated. “ThaAANKS!” the red head jumped as he felt his date’s foot travel into dangerous territory, standing up immediately as he felt what he could only imagine was a full body blush. It probably looked like a raging sunburn. He covered his mouth, realizing he’d been loud. Shit. ‘YOU.’ He yelled into the connection though even in the sanctity of his own mind he was at a loss for words. Swiftly, he scooped up Charani’s books and tossed them into his pouch of holding. “We-…We’re going ho-home.” He couldn’t look at Charani, and despite how hard he was trying to glare his heart was thundering in his ears. Yeah, ok, there was something else attached to Charani’s notion of ‘just touching’. Something that spiked his blood pressure and made his heart shoot out of his rib cage.
"I just cam here to the party for the drugs Not here to make a friend or fall in love"
Charani smiles innocently at the accusation throw at him. Of course it was all true... especially given what he was doing under the table. But still how dare you throw me under the bus with that completely factual statement. “Fair point but it’s so cute how flustered you get.” He was a fairly easy target after all. Pale skin ripe with blood vessels rising to the surface showing blotchy redness every time he got a hint of unchaste attention.
“I do think a little scruff would look nice though. Define your jaw a little more.” Not a full on beard or mustache but more of the unkempt five o’clock shadow look. Maybe a bit of chest hair peaking above his shirt. Oh maybe a shirt that opened a but showing some chest? The image stuck in his head. He was here for it. “Mmm yup. If I was just grabbing your hand or something it’d be friendly. But this is not exactly something I’d do to a friend.” Charani said as he trailed up the boys inner thigh. The feeling of his pants was quickly taken away as the other boy stood up abruptly. The red head was beat red and looked like he was going to faint from all the blood rushing to his head. Oops. He was loud enough that other people were looking. The employee from before glaring at them.
“Okay Aiden”. Lots of people were staring only for a brief moment before they went back to what they were doing. The mental connection even tugged a bit with his shout into the brunettes mind. He seemed pleased with himself. He would put his shoes back on and try to help gather their things before trying to grip himself onto aiden emerson arm to walk home. “Hehe onward to your house!”

He felt himself pout at the boy called him out on how easy it was to rile him up. Even if he pretended it wasn’t true, and mastered controlling his expressions and his movements, his fair skin would give everything away. Case and point, right now. “D-didn’t I warn you if you kept teasing me, we wouldn’t…” he trailed off unable to really finish the sentence, mostly because he knew he wouldn’t be able to carry out that threat against Charani. He could feel his familiar judging him for his lack of convictions from the astral plane. [break][break]
Aiden rubbed his jaw mulling it over. He didn’t really grow that much facial hair. He’d tried once but waxed the few hairs that had popped up because it looked too patchy and bright orange. He thought it’d be cool to have something like Macintosh but at the moment body hair wasn’t really coming out. He figured he was still missing one last growth spurt before his puberty ended. He refrained from dusting off or touching where Charani’s foot had been but much like the kiss from before he felt that particular part of his skin flaring up. At least he could never say Charani wasn’t straightforward and he had no trouble at all understand his intentions. Unspeakable intentions. He did his best to ignore the brief stares his outburst had gotten, and instead waited ready to leave. He didn’t want to risk sitting down again. Another attack like that would really make him faint. [break][break]
He let Charani hang onto his arm once more. He’d been expecting it anyway. Hopefully like this he couldn’t do anymore to him, aside from speaking terrible things into his head. ‘Don’t do that in front of my grandparents…’ he pleaded as he led the brunette back where they’d come from. That said he was left at Charani’s mercy, who seemingly had no sense of shame to speak of.
"I just cam here to the party for the drugs Not here to make a friend or fall in love"
Charani moved quickly along with the other boy whom made no moved to stop him from gripping onto his arm.He was not afraid to whip out the puppy dog eyes if he tried with his threat. Would it work? Totally. It had worked before right? Had it? He couldn’t remember. Hmm.
”Of course not. That’s for when we are alone obviously.” Not even a second glance or thought to that statement. He squeezed the other boys arm as the quickly walked down the street towards the magical abode of the lemon square queen. The grandmother of all grandmothers. And her husband. “Oh look. I can already see the house.” Charani said as they approached the Rosario abode. It was not a far walk at all. He wished it was because that meant more alone time with Aiden. Or maybe he didn’t because alone time not in public was also an option.
”Hehe I promise. Your grandparents seem nice.” He has only just met them but let’s be honest the history was there even without the memories. It was something he couldn’t just shrug off. Nor did he want too.

They carried on with ease, Aiden mildly afraid that Charani already had a game plan on what best ways to embarrass him again once they were alone. Never again would he look at someone seemingly cute and innocent the same way again. He could feel the basic distrust forming from Charani’s own deceptive nature. “Alone, right.” He repeated, sweating at the thought. Because it was coming, naturally. He would bring Charani home and Rosario would INSIST and Macintosh would agree, and he would give up his room to house the boy for the night…or two. They were…spending time tomorrow as well… [break][break]
Still, at least he promised to behave in front of his grandparents. Maybe it wasn’t shame but maybe a modicum of respect for the old couple, thank the gods. ‘They are.’ The boy agreed easily as his house came into view. He kind of wished he could go home. Not his grandparents place but his mom’s. If only he could remember where that was. Something had knocked his brain around a little too much and Charani had been a welcome distraction from the fact he hadn’t gone home all day. Hopefully, Rosario had already sent word to Amelia that he was staying over with them for the night. A sort of day off. [break][break]
He could see ab it of smoke rising from the chimney as his grandpa probably set it up for when the night cold finally settled in. As they stepped up to the entrance, Aiden tugged at his arm, mainly to get the other boy’s attention. ‘End of the date. One more to keep you at bay?’ He asked as he point at his mouth. There’s a bit of hesitation, but clichés dictated what happened at the end of these things when you walked that other person home. It wasn’t as chaste as hand holding, but also not as extreme as anything Charani had attempted today. And as much as McKenna judged him for his actions this afternoon, he kind of wanted another kiss. Just a little. As a treat.
