this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
The rocks went towards them. Like the girl next to him he dove to escape the rocks flying back towards them. Damn wolf creature. Teddy was small enough that he barely had to move in order to dodge anything. He could pretty much leisurely walk behind the witch and not get hit by the rocks.
He could feel his leg skim across the ground as he dodged those rocks. Some skin was probably damaged, a nice skid mark thanks to not thinking when trying not to be hit by rocks. He looked down quickly at it as he got up and it wasn't bleeding. It just stung a little bit so he was probably fine. The others he couldn't say were as fine. The two who were up close and personal had pretty much managed to get themselves pretty heavily attacked by the thing. Claire looked worse for wear at the moment and the other girl was trying to escape thing wolf thing.
She told him to use the earth again. Earth shower didn't work to well the first time. Maybe because it was to mobile. How could he help stop it first. That would probably be the most efficient way to take the creature down. The boy reached into his bag and grabbed his Wand. There was enough distance between them that aim shouldn't be a problem. Plus if he said so himself his aim was pretty good thanks to the hours of practice he had with throwing knives.
"Teddy, use earth shower as soon as this hits okay?" he said looking down at the dog familiar. The small saint bernard nodded its cute little head as it started charging up mana into the earth. He was relying on the creature for most of their earth based attacks like he usually did. The small creature was one he could always count on to have good timing... usually. When he didn't get distracted by pretty girls of course. Darn dog.
He waited a beat for the girls attacks to land before using GENERAL: VIBRIONUS through his wand to try and immobilize the creature. He just hoped this worked. Even a little spasming could leave an opening for the others to attack. He kept his eyes on the creature of the dog familiar did as its master said and let loose another wave of Technique: Earth Shower on the creature.
The real question is would any of this work. Or were they all doomed. They could be very doomed. They had to go out fighting though even if it was the end. Maybe they deserved this. Arrogance deserved punishment.
------- Sums: Rolls away from creature to avoid rocks. Skins knee as an ouchy while dodging. Familiar dodges much more easily. Grabs wand out and uses Vibrionus on creature. Familiar uses Earth Shower to attack creature after, hoping to at least slow it down. Techniques: Earth Shower Items: Wand General: Vibrionus
They attack in retaliation, but the wolf is no wolf to wait for their attacks. cassidy wolfe 's KNOCKERBACKER is easily dodged- the wolf has fully regained its mobility. The previous attacks do not seem to have had any lasting damage. On the contrary, the wolf looks fine. And then they see a shocking disparity- the wolf's mouth splits into a grin, but the human eyes could not be more profoundly sad. [break][break] Charani Petrov 's VIBRIONUS hits the wolf in the side, sizzling its skin for a brief second before it howls loudly. the iced walls appear around it soon after...but when the earth shower appears, so does the disparity in their strengths. [break][break] at first, no one can comprehend what is going on when several tiny orbs of light float about the room. but then the rocks begin to fall-- and each beam of light runs into a tiny piercing ray that slices the technique cleanly. pebbles fall harmlessly to the ground. then the orbs turn their attention to the ice wall and in a few seconds, the little cage, too, is shut down. [break][break] it can use magic.[break][break] which, in hindsight, makes a lot more sense than it not being able to use magic. yet at the same time...the revelation is frightening. and the girl gives them no time to really process the thought. giant beams of piercing light attack the group- one at each witch, and one at each familiar. [break][break] and then it is claire fermont that notices something incredibly wrong. there is a dark black spot where the wolf bit into vani-- and the dark patches are slowly spreading all over the boar's body. the warm presence that the witch could usually sense from the familiar has begun to fade. does claire realize that their shared pain had faded way too quickly? [break][break]
will they prevail against the monster? or perish in the process?
[attr="class","stafftempsubtext"]
ooc notes
the group has made 0/3 unfavorable choices so far. the group has made a decent choice of keeping the wolf at long range-- or so they thought. the monster has revealed more of its capacity for battle. it has launched light-based attacks at every witch and familiar. you must ROLL in your next post. roll twice. if the combined total is above 100 then both you and your familiar will avoid the attack. as long as it is above 50, only one (your pick) will be damaged. if the roll is below 50, both of you will be hit by the monster's attacks. [break][break] you have 48hrs to devise a plan to deal with new developments. you may post twice (you may only roll in one post). edited posts with rolls will be immediately disqualified. [break][break]
They had to trap this girl in somehow. Ice spells were cool and all, but at the rate Claire could spread them, the intended prisoner could just run around to the other side before the whole area was fenced in. [break][break]
Looking back at these pillars distributed around, some of them might be useful to make a wall that could lower the girl's options long enough to keep her in one place. They just had to move some of them over a bit. of course, there was always the possibility that the whole building would collapse on top of them, but that should require a lot more destruction before they even came close to worrying about that. Hopefully. [break][break]
More important matters distracted Naomi from calculating the chances of accidentally killing everyone. Like how the monster girl suddenly started to use magic. She hoped the kid would've been someone like herself who barely knew any useful techniques, but hey maybe this light show is the only thing she knew how to cast. [break][break]
At this point, it felt more like they were fighting against a transfiguration user and not some cursed child. If this ended up being an elaborate set-up then--[break][break]
Well, any plans for revenge would have to wait until she actually survived this encounter. No point worrying about ten minutes from now when a death laser is trying to blast a hole right through you. Naomi shuffled towards prince as fast as she could, to at least save him from getting injured. She didn't want to feel the effects of getting shot twice in a row. [break][break]
[break] came up with a dumb plan to start melting things. It doesn't matter because dodging light blast is more important right now[break] _et|iHwM1-1001-100

This bleep can use magic now too!? The bleep is this bleep. Well they were screwed. That did leave a question though. From the split second look he got it seemed to be some kind of elemental magic. Most likely light based in nature. He was somewhat familiar with light magic but not enough to be able to easily disrupt it. That begged the question though... how was this thing using familiar magic?
It took him a second as he ran for cover so he could think. There was those stupid pillars. Hopefully they held up well enough and he didn't get a face full of light beam. Or worse if they went around the damn thing he'd have to do a quick dive. He really hoped it didn't come to that. His little pup was dodging and weaving like a champ. If anyone where to get hit it would probably be the witch. Now he had a second to think. Only a second though.
He had come to the conclusion that there were two probabilities. Of course with this curse anything was physically possible. The options that seemed most likely was that this thing was a weird familiar and there was a witch controlling it somewhere out of sight. This didn't seem to be very likely given the humanoid appearance of the wolf creature. What stuck in his mind was a strange hybrid creature. Maybe a possession type curse or magic? Something where the familiar was in control of the witches body. In theory a familiar used a witches body as a vessel to house their spirit. Normally a familiar can't do anything besides speak to its witch mentally while dwelling inside the witch. They would need to materialize into a form outside the witch to do anything.
What if this was some weird half way in between. Instead of the familiar being separate something it was kind of merging and taking over the witch. That would give it autonomy not afforded normally by usurping the will of the host. That sounded like a curse to him. Maybe some kind of infection was causing this... or some kind of spell. Maybe he could just disrupt the creatures mana for a second. Maybe then they could figure something out. Or even better halt this freaky light show.
Right now though he just had to stop this stuff from happening. The room itself was well enclosed so it would be easy to set a boundary for his magic. No need to try purifying all of the outside after all. He focused his mana into his hand, and sending it out like a shockwave with Purification: Full Reset to try and fix some shiz.
------- Sums: Hides behind pillar as dog does the five Ds of dodgeball. Thinks a bit before using Full Reset to try and reset any magic around them as best as he can. Techniques: Earth Shower Items: Wand General: Vibrionus Purification: Full Reset
"Fiend," Claire curses as the ice is shred to pieces, evaporating into nothingness. The orbs aren't able to completely shred the rocks into fine dust, though, as pebbles drop harmlessly to the ground. Even after their combined attacks the wolf looks fine as hell. Claire is so enraged that she does not take into account the split of the wolf grin and sad, human eyes. She is only focused into one thing--bringing that monstrosity down and getting out of this abomination alive.
It takes time for the orbs to do their magic, and Claire takes the opportunity to do a quick survey of her companions and the surroundings. Naomi is mostly safe, Charani as well. Cassidy is still on the ground. A rupture has separated the monster from their lot. And then Vani, where is that boar?
Claire does a double-take, before realizing Vani is right in front her. Something is odd about his fur. Her eyes trail down to the source of infection, and her mouth gapes in horror. It's the curse, Claire thinks, and her eyes stare to the girl in pure spite. "I'll kill you," Claire promises. She is about to make Vani dematerialize, but before she can do that, beams of light fly to all directions.
The duo is in no way agile or fast in their full, to top that they are both injured and limping. Claire dives into the nearest pillar, ushering Vani forward as well. Claire does not register anything except for the black spot on Vani's leg. The damage of the light beam, if they ever get hit, would not even cross Claire's mind. It's the curse, Claire thinks desperately.
Charani, Charani is a purifier--
Then Claire blinks. The mana is reset to normal levels. Claire does not know if the move would help Vani, but it's better than nothing. She's not taking any chances.
"Vani, you have to go and heal yourself." The boar protests and tries to nudge Claire. "I can still fight! I can--" But Claire only responds with a light touch to one of his tusks. The boar disappears in a sizzle of mana, his roar sucks into the inner strata. "I'll be fine," Claire assures him, standing up. "Keep in contact with me."
"I'll be back if anything even happens to you!"

TL;DR Claire realizes Vani's situation. Tries to dodge the lasers by hiding behind a pillar. Reset has been made and Claire hopes it'll help Vani. Dematerializes the familiar and hopes he will heal in the inner strata

he wolf is too strong; Cassidy doesn't know if she can even get out of this alive or not. She grits her teeth, clutching at her legs. It doesn't look like she can walk, much less run very well under these conditions. It throbs with pain, and she needs to focus on something other than the pain.
In a last ditch effort, she casts a close quarters, attempting to perhaps trap the wolf--perhaps it has an aversion to fire? She can only hope; although it's probably more likely that it'll hold no affect. If Claire's ice walls are anything to go by, it seems like they have very little chance of getting out alive.
"Vali, run!" She says, trying to push him out of the way of the piercing light. She attempts to duck away from the light, and lays on the ground. She glances a the people in her group; Vani's fur is covered in black spots, and he's the one who got bit. Her eyes flash in shock--they're dealing with something far stronger than they.
How are they going to survive this?

[break][break] both Naomi Oliver and her familiar are hit by the light- a violent attack that scorches their skin black without any indication of prior burning. naomi, too, feels an incomprehensible mental and physical pain with what sounds like prince's angry shouting inside her head. even as vani dematerializes, claire can feel something pulling at her skin's surface, like something is being torn apart inside of her.[break][break] cassidy wolfe, however, has greater success. her knockerbacker shoves the beast before it can make a physical retaliation, and when the flames surround it, it growls angrily. [break][break] the vibrionus from before is still sizzling the furs on its side, it does not want to get burned again. and that is when they realize that it most certainly is their youngest sister- the monster is a child underneath. but what does that advantage prove? eventually, the now-cautious wolf will likely take the risk for the promise of their flesh. As with most things in her life, Naomi failed to achieve her goal. This was a fight though, so she kind of expected to get roughed up a bit. Sometime tomorrow she could point out several scars that hurt way more than these burns ever did. Nothing beat actually bleeding out on the floor.[break][break]
For a minute none of that mattered. Naomi laid there covering her mouth, biting down on the ends of her sleeve, anything to avoid screaming out. At first, it didn't seem like it worked until she remembered someone else had been hit. The majority of this internal yelling came from her familiar. [break][break]
Listening to the zebra in pain was easily the worst experience all month. She made plenty of bad decisions that he had to suffer through, but he typically didn't get hit directly. When they got out of here, she needed to find a way to make this up to him. [break][break]
Sorry, that was too optimistic. If they survived they could go on a year long vacation. Either possibility sounded equally unlikely. From her viewpoint on the floor, Naomi had a good view of just how messed up this room was before today's little encounter. [break][break]
During the walk down here she avoided thinking about what this girl had been eating the whole time, but having a clear view of what could be the remains of some other adventurer really put things into perspective. No one expected them to succeed, did they? This really was a death trap.[break][break]
"Alright, that's it." Naomi used what little strength remained to push herself back up off the ground. Frustration started boiling over into full on bloodlust as the desire to end this nightmare took over. "Let's do this!"[break][break]
She made it about five steps closer before tripping over herself.[break][break]

he monster's light washes against the walls and floors, and with horror Cassidy realizes that this room is filled with blood that is not theirs. Bones and rotting flesh, the scent of death that lingers. How had she not realized it before?
She yells as she sees the light scorch her friend's skin--the one she'd pushed out of the way of the plants earlier. Cassidy crawls, her legs drag along the ground, and with sluggish movements, attempts to cast another close quarters. The monster seems somewhat subdued to the flames, but once it stops, it'll chase them again.
They have to go now, while they can--
She reaches a pillar and pushes, leaning back on it heavily. "We can't fight this--we need to run!" She says. But she can't. Her legs will only slow them down should they go. She'll stay back.
"Go! Or else we'll all be dead."
Vali calls her name in protest, his growls warning but reluctantly accepting. She turns to the monster and casts warmth, warming the area around the wolf."Stay back! Or I'll take both of us down." Sweat beads down her temples, and she's near exhaustion at this point.
Would the bluff work?

He hated to admit it but the girl was right. They didn't stand a chance against this creature now that they knew it could use magic. Maybe they could trick it into hitting one of the traps that were held in the room before this one. Even then there was not a guarantee they could survive this. What could they do. What could they do?
Charani threw the knife he'd been holding at the creature. He was aiming for a leg, something to slow the creature down. He just needed to give them some kind of advantage if it came to them having to outrun the creature. Even if it was just a second more it'd be worth it. That was all they needed... a few seconds to get out. Could they trick the creature into slamming against the door? Would that work?
"She's right, we don't stand a chance..." he said to the group, "...we should fall back into the previous room..." He hoped they got what he meant. They might have the advantage in the room before. There was stuff they purposefully didn't touch in there and maybe that meant the creature wouldn't be immune to that stuff either. There had to be a reason all the carnage was in this room and not the first one.
He started to back away into the previous room, his familiar growling at the creature as it poured mana into the ground. The small dog was attempting to use Technique: Lift to life a small chunk of earth beneath Cassidy. The little dog familiar was trying to get her away from the wolf creature by moving said piece of earth towards the door... in a fairly violent way. More like throwing her and a piece of rock out into the other room. If it worked then it worked though right? Results were results.

The white-haired woman is physically fine. But even though she manages to dodge the light beams she still feels like collapsing. Whatever had befallen upon her familiar certainly takes a toll on her too. Claire wobbles, but stands her ground.
What now? she asks herself. Efforts had been done, all in naught. Naomi is hit by the beam, Charani as well, Cassidy's legs are crushed. But the wolf looks fine. It's as if their attacks are only pricks of needles on the wolf sister's skin. Originally Claire is banking on the lucky first hit--that they could end it as soon as it appeared. Adrenaline has left her, if not all of them. Now Claire is able to see the hideous state of the cavern. Sooner or later the group will be reduced to monster food if they do nothing, Claire is positive.
She sees Charani already moving back to the entrance. Claire fishes out a half of the portal and tosses it to him. "Go! Keep that portal open so we can follow suit! Naomi, if you can walk, follow him!" she yells before turning her attention back to the monster. Cassidy has decided to stay as well, and it's logical because she her legs have lost some of its essential function.
But Claire is not about to leave her behind. The Knight is quick to gather mana from her surroundings and channel it towards the direction of the monster. Claire would attempt invoking is the Pause Scroll. As she does this she would slowly, slowly shift towards Cassidy in an attempt to help her. Should the wolf sister reach the Knight first Claire would attempt to throw the other half of the portal to Cassidy.
"Stay back!" Claire yells furiously. "If you want to be rescued, stay back!" It unsettles Claire. The monster is a monster, regardless of the little trace of humanity left in it. So many questions are in Claire's mind. Questions about the wolf sister, questions about the dungeon, questions why there are rotting flesh and misplaced limbs inside.
This fight is no longer a fight to win, but a fight to survive.

Who would be dumb enough to leave?[break][break]
Naomi punched the ground, more angry at herself for not being able to kill this girl and move on. Sure, they barely made any progress. This ended up being more complicated than expected. But at this point, she just wanted to come out on top or die trying. [break][break]
She stood up once again and fully intended to ignore claire and stay behind. Once she put her foot forward, the floor seemed to move and she ended up facing the opposite direction. Prince snorted, ready to use stance shift once again if she tried to turn around.[break][break]
"Child, please. It's not even worth it." [break][break]
The sound broke through her current tantrum. If he was trying to guilt her into listening for once, it was certainly effective. Naomi took a deep breath and tried to calm down. Didn't work. "Alright already, I'll go."[break][break]
And so she began the slow journey back out of this room. Without all the rage and adrenaline keeping her going, it was easy to focus on just how badly it hurt to move like this. assidy's eyes widen in surprise when Claire throws her a portal. A miracle, if those even existed. Her fingers are shaking, and she fumbles with it for a few seconds before it's open.
"This way!"
There's no time to lose; she crawls through the hole, adrenaline racing, and one by one, they manage to filter through. When the monster races forward, eyes sad despite the snarl on it's lips, she quickly snaps it closed. It was their last way out; but they find themselves back near the beginning of the cave, locks firmly in place.
"Are you guys alright?"
Cassidy leans herself against the wall behind her and takes a moment to breathe. Adrenaline slowly starts to fade, and her fractured legs cry in pain. If only they had a healer of some sort. She thinks, but they don't have anything. The rest of them don't seem to be faring any much better.
They have to try, at least.
"The monster...it might find us here." She says, her voice grave. "I think we should try and break open the door."

Cassidy snaps the portal close, and they are momentarily safe. The group is back in the enchanted room. Nothing has changed much, even the shut doors remain shut. Claire takes a moment to breathe, to think, to make sense of the situation.
Bruised, battered, her familiar reeling from some type of curse. Is it a curse, a disease? Who knows. Claire doesn't want to touch the enchantment, but then, it is the only way out. The choice isn't that hard to make. Between mere enchantment and a cursed hybrid of a sister and a wolf, the choice is obvious.
But breaking these clever tricks and jinxes would take time. Even though it pains her, Claire summons Vani back to the real world. The boar materializes in an unusual quiet, making it clear that something is terribly wrong with him. Claire does not waste time, and together, they raise a wall at a distance, which aims to block the path leading to the room. Once done Claire would touch Vani's tusk and make him disappear. The boar gives her one weak nudge before he returns to the familiar world.
Claire then summons mana and augment her strength to folds higher than usual. Simultaneously she repeatedly casts Knockerbacker to the closed door in an attempt to tear it down. If all effort is naught, Claire is ready to give the door a hearty punch until it gives out.
As the clock ticks and the wolf's step nears, Claire wonders how the other groups are doing. Zephyr is supposed to have the herbs necessary for the so-called dispersal of the curse. Maybe he also have the cure for Vani and Prince? Claire wants to find out the answer, but she isn't so sure if she would live to that moment. The very thought shakes her. And Lucena—sweet, gentle Lucena. Claire longs to see her, is she safe? Claire fervently hopes she is.
Claire's effort doubles. No, she won't be downed just by this. Neither are her companions.
"We go out, or we will die trying," the Knight says.
TL;DR Claire calls Vani and they erect a wall using large spread to block the sister's path. Makes him dematerialize after. Uses knockerbacker repeatedly at the doors. Worries a heck lot for Vani Lucena
